Tier 1 Academy’s mission is simple: self-defense is a human right, and we are here to provide American citizens with the knowledge and training to legally and effectively protect themselves. As a community, we live in a world with crime rates that rise daily and a justice system that has become soft on crime. This, in turn, makes them soft on our protection as well. The responsibility of protecting ourselves, our loved ones, and our

homes has fallen on us. We will ensure that citizens are prepared for real world dangers.

Our instructors are NRA and USCCA certified handgun instructors. Our instructors have years of experience with firearms, and extensive knowledge of Maryland laws pertaining to firearms and Concealed Carry

Getting your CCW Made Easy!

We make getting your CCW easy by providing all the necessary documentation and equipment. We provide application assistance, ammunition, eye & ear protection, and a firearm for the range qualification included in the course cost! Lastly, we do provide in-house fingerprinting.

Our mission is to provide students with knowledge and skills to safely handle firearms for self-defense, and to protect their loved ones. We understand many students have busy schedules, but wish to obtain the necessary knowledge. Luckily we do offer flexible hours and days to meet the training requirements and needs of our students. Where Are You Located?

What disqualifies someone from receiving the CCW?

The applicant is not at least 21 years of age
The applicant has been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor for which a sentence of imprisonment for more than one year has been imposed; or convicted of a criminal offense for which you could have been sentenced to more than 2 years incarceration.
The applicant has been convicted of a crime involving the possession, use, or distribution of a controlled dangerous substance
The applicant is presently an alcoholic, addict, or habitual user of a controlled dangerous substance unless under legitimate medical direction
The applicant, based on an investigation, has exhibited a propensity for violence or instability that may reasonably render the person’s possession of a handgun a danger to the person or others
The applicant is a marijuana green card holder

How Long Is The Course?

Our CCW course is conducted over the course of a weekend (Saturday and Sunday), starting at 9am and ending at 5pm (both days) with students attending portions of the day respective to the course they choose which are as follows...

How Do I Sign-Up or Register?

You can sign-up or register in advance to reserve your seat for your course of choice using the links above. You can also sign-up or register by contacting us via email or phone.

Do you offer weekday courses?

Yes, we offer weekday courses to get our students the CCW curriculum of their choice based on their availability. We only offer week day courses by appointment. To schedule a weekday course with us for yourself or a group, call or email us to request and schedule a weekday course. Weekday courses must be scheduled and paid in advance no later than 7 days prior to the scheduled course date.

Can I Pay At A Later Date?

Tier 1 Academy is partnered with Afterpay. Take full advantage of Afterpay financing to sign-up in advance and reserve your seat! Simply click "Afterpay" at checkout to finance the course.

Do I Have To First Have The HQL Before Getting The Maryland CCW?

You do not have to get the HQL before you do the CCW course or get your Maryland CCW. Maryland State Police will give you the HQL for free when you get your Maryland CCW. In conclusion, it is more expensive to get your HQL first, then the Maryland CCW than first getting then the Maryland CCW, then applying for the HQL.

Are There Any External Fees?

You will have to pay the respective State fees, fingerprints, and range fee. State fees, fingerprints, and other necessary documents are separate fees! Be advised, you do not have to pay the state fees or do the fingerprints on the day of the course. State fees and fingerprints can be paid or done at a later date in time.

Do I Need To Bring My Own Firearm and Ammunition?

You do not have to being your own firearm or ammunition. Tier 1 Academy provides a firearm and ammunition for the range qualification. However, we do strongly recommend you bring your own firearm for the range qualification if you possess one. Tier 1 Academy provides 9mm and .22 LR ammunition. If your firearm takes these munitions, then we will provide it, but if it doesn't, then you will need to bring your own ammunition for your firearm.

How Does The Bring A Friend Discount Work?

When two or more individuals whom know each other either attend the same CCW class together or sign-up in advance (even if they are attending different classes) will receive $50 off towards either CCW course of choice. The bring a friend discount does not apply for CCW Renewal courses or the HQL course. To get this discount, contact us for the discount code.

What If I Can't Make Both Days?

Fear not, Tier 1 Academy offers course and schedule flexibility to satisfy the curriculum for your CCW(s) of choice. Simply contact us with your concerns so we can work out a plan, including a weekday class, that will fit your schedule.

What Is The Minimum Age Requirement For Attending Tier 1 Academy classes?

You must be at least 21 years old to attend our CCW Courses. You must be 18 years old to attend our Security Guard Training and Certification courses. Our Basic Pistol/Rifle Course is available to all ages.

What CCWs Does The Multi-State Option Consist of?

The CCW's our Multi-State option certifies you for are Maryland, D.C, Virginia, Florida, Utah, Arizona, and Pennsylvania to achieve maximum coverage of 39 states through various reciprocities.

What States Can I Carry In if I Do The Multi-State Option?

What is reciprocity?

Reciprocity is simply where one state recognizes another states conceal carry license.

For example, here in the DMV, you can carry in Virginia with the Maryland Conceal Carry Permit, but you cannot carry in Maryland with the Virginia Conceal Carry Permit. While Virginia has reciprocity with Maryland, Maryland does not have reciprocity with Virginia (or any state for that matter).

How Long Does It take To Receive The CCW(S)?

The Maryland CCW takes 60 days.

The Utah CCW takes 60 days.

The Virginia CCW takes 60 days.

The Arizona CCW takes 90 days.

The Pennsylvania CCW takes 1 week.

The Florida CCW varies but is usually 30 to 45 days.

The D.C CCW process can take 4-6 months.

How Do I Get An Expungement If I Need One?

Tier 1 Academy is partnered with a phenomenal lawyer who does expungements in the DMV area. If you need an expungement, contact us so we can refer you to our recommended expungement lawyer.

What Range Do You Use?

We use Continental Arms gun range which is conveniently located ten minutes away from our office.

Do You Do The LEOSA License

Unfortunately no. We do not certify or issue the LEOSA license for law enforcement or former law enforcement individuals. This possibly may change in the future depending on legislation.

Refund Policy

Tier 1 Academy will provide a refund if requested. The refund will be in the amount paid to Tier 1 Academy minus the processing fee of $0.30 + 2.9% of the course cost. A refund cannot be given or requested if you attend the course or complete the course or if you do not receive the license(s) that you took our certification course(s) to obtain due to an elapse in time, disapproval for the credential, failure to submit the proper documents, etc.

Seat Reservation Policy

The only way to reserve a seat or guarentee you will have a seat to attend one of our courses is to register in advance for your course of choice or to pay the deposit for the course of your choice. To place a deposit for your course of choice, contact Tier 1 Academy staff for the deposit link. The deposit is 1/3rd the course cost. The remaining balance must be paid on the day of the course.

Week Day Course Policy

To schedule and attend one of our courses with us on a weekday, defined as Monday through Friday, you must pay for the course at least SEVEN days prior to the agreed upon course date and time. Tier 1 Academy will send you a notice via email and/or SMS at the last minute mark to advise you to register before the deadline. Failure to do so will result in the course being cancelled. You will then have to reschedule for a later date in time.

Rescheduling Policy

Students who have pre-paid are allowed to reschedule up to TWO times. If the student has rescheduled two times and still has not completed the course, the student will be required to pay $50 to reschedule and $50 for each subsequent reschedule.

Bring A Friend Discount Policy

The bring a friend discount only applies to our initial CCW courses. The following courses do not qualify for the bring a friend discount

To qualify for the Bring a friend discount, you must be attending the course or sign up at the same time with one or more people you personally know, as in you both/all agreed to attend the class together as a collective. A discount in the amount of $50 will be given to all attendees towards the course cost. To redeem this discount, contact Tier 1 Academy staff prior to registering for the discount code or a refund in the amount of $50 will be refunded on the day of the class.
